Workshops

Sarina Niedzwiedz (University of Bremen) and Tobias Vonnahme (Greenland Institute of Natural Resources) presented FACE-IT results at the “Fjords in a changing climate” workshop in Stalheim, Norway. This interdisciplinary workshop on the physical oceanography, biogeochemistry and biology of fjords in the past, present and future took place from 02 to 05 June 2025.

The workshop aimed to summarize the current status of fjord research and identify critical knowledge gaps in our understanding of how the fjords and those who live in and of them are affected by – and affect(?) – a changing climate. The goal of the workshop was to lay the base to develop a review paper that provides recommendations for future fjord research. Sarina presented a talk entitled “Arctic Fjords in Transition: What´s the New Normal?”, providing an overview on the FACE-IT project and its results. Tobias Vonnahme presented on “Phytoplankton richness and communities in a changing climate – From time series observations and modeling to experiments” which was based on two time series of FACE-IT field sites in a Greenland (Nuup Kangerlua) and a Svalbard (Isfjorden).
